Our hope is to create a network of like-minded people who have an interest in interaction design issues and want to contribute to an ongoing debate about the appropriate use of technology within a world using ever decreasing natural resources.
Final year students are working with Blink on combining SMS technology with musuem guides. We are also exploring development work on collaborative environments and mobile phone gaming.
Speculative projects take time to evolve and we have other exciting projects in the pipeline
Marcus Taylor

Erlang have been working with us on a project related to building a prototype environment for team collaboration and data sharing. The Erlang programming environment is particuarly suited to handling disparate and error prone data sets.

Andol has started his PhD with us in the Autumn of 2008. He has a background in product design and multi-media and is focussing on aspects related to the 'internet of things'.

Placement student

Oliver is working with the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival during his placement year and is based in live:lab. Oliver will be producing a range of 2D and 3D promotional and creative animations and videos for the festival, including a number of large urban projections that will be displayed around the town during November
Research Student

Through a small collaborative development grant funded by the university, Mike worked over the summer on upgrading the projection equipment to improve integration and control of four projected images and began work on camera motion detection systems to allow real world objects to interact with virtual worlds. Mike plans to register for a PhD in order to carry on with his interests.

Kilo75 are a small digital media company based in Leeds with a high reputation for delivering web sites and e-commerce sites that are specifically designed towards client and user needs. We are working with them on a long term ethnographic study to understand influencing factors on decision making in a small organisation
Lecturer in Information Systems
Steve's research interests focus on how to develop better information systems from the perspective of both developers and end-users. He says, 'I take the view that information systems development is fundamentally a social activity so I am interested in techniques that help us to understand the organisational and social context in which information systems will be used - live:lab is a nice place to go for a cup of coffee...'.
